A senior Hindko poet, prose writer and researcher has said that educated youth have a role to play in language and cultural preservation. Presiding over a poetry recital session arranged by the literacy, cultural and social welfare organisation, Gandhara Hindko Board, which was attended by Hindko poets and poetry lovers.
Sheen Shoukat, who specialises in librarian sciences and has authored and edited several publications including a Hindko novel "Doli" (sedan chair) and "Baladia" magazine of now defunct Peshawar Municipal Corporation, said it is heartening to note that Hindko language is no more deficient among young and educated writers.
Speaking as chief guest, Vice-Chairman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ziaul Haq Sarhadi said all languages are an asset to humanity and even handed efforts by the government are needed to promote them. He said although he is not a poet but likes Hindko poetry as he has great love for his mother language and culture. General Secretary GandharaHindko Board, Mohammad Ziaddin said the board has reached out to Hindko writers from almost every part of the province where the language is spoken. He especially mentioned and praised Sultan Fareedi of Zarobi area of the Swabi district who has translated Hindko poetry of mystic poet Sain Ahmad Ali into Pashto.
