Consensus at Raiwind meeting: PML-N not to support any unconstitutional move

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders in a consultative meeting held on Friday expressed firm resolve not to support any unconstitutional move and vowed to safeguard the country's sovereignty. The meeting, which was held at Raiwind residence of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, discussed in detail the situation arising out of filing of replies by respondents in petitions about 'Memogate' filed by the PML-N chief and others, sources in the PML-N told Business Recorder.
According to sources, the participants of the meeting discussed different options to steer the country out from present mess. "The country is facing crises, and rumours are being spread. The subject of mid-term polls is covered by constitution and by using this option the present difficult situation could be tackled," one participant of the meeting opined, sources said.
There was consensus among the participants that the solution of the problems lies in democracy, as repeated imposition of martial law had pushed the country several decades back, sources said. They said that the participants opined that the Supreme Court would decide the 'Memogate' scandal, as the nation has full faith in apex court.
It may be mentioned that the PML-N has also filed another miscellaneous application before the Supreme Court praying for arraying Pakistan's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, as a respondent. Through this application, it has also been prayed to call journalists Shaheen Sehbai and Mohmmad Malick.
The PML-N leaders also held discussion with the party's legal team to discuss different aspects of the 'Memogate' case in the light of replies filed by the respondents so far. Punjab Law Minister Sanaullah Khan told reporters on Friday that People's Party has no majority in the parliament. Hence, all other parties in the National Assembly need to find out any unanimous constitutional solution to tackle the present situation.
Referring to replies filed in the Supreme Court by respondents, he said: "The replies of two respondents do not match the government point of view." He further said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani "is confused" since the 'Memogate' had surfaced. He claimed that illness of President Zardari could linger on after submission of replies in 'Memogate' scandal. He added that "time has come to get rid of" the present government. Sana further said that PML-N had no link with Mansoor Ijaz whatsoever. Rather it was PPP and Hussain Haqqani who were in touch with Mansoor.
