Karachi blasts: Use of 'Uni-Direction' technology changes course of probe

Since the detection of 'Uni-Direction' technology in all four blasts in Karachi, the investigators have turned the direction of investigation towards Afghan secret agents, who appeared dubious after these blasts, said one investigator.
The official said that this 'Uni-Direction' technology, which is exclusively used in Afghanistan to target specific objects, has now been introduced in Lines Area, Kala Pul, Saforan Goth and University Road blasts. He said this 'Uni-Direction' technology, which was brought from Afghanistan by some outlaws, can target objects in specific direction. "Although the culprits behind these blasts and their targets have still not been identified, the use of this technology can be a reason of massacre in the city or any other part of the country," he added.
He was of the view that the culprits might have missed their targets in these blasts, or they just wanted to demonstrate their power, by using the said technology. He said that the concerned authorities have sent a letter to Crisis Management Cell (CMC), seeking its assistance to chalk out plan to nab the culprits and avert the use of this technology in any other terrorist activity.
Moreover, he said, the concerned authorities have also directed the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to expedite the process of investigation, besides initiating physical exercise to nab the culprits. Therefore, the LEAs are currently planning to start massive search operation, especially in Afghan settlements, to grab the wrongdoers.
Needless to say, the wave of these blasts in the city, started from Lines Area on December 5 (Muharram 9), which blew up at the place where the Muharram procession had just passed, was initially declared as gas cylinder blast, but later was confirmed as a bomb blast.
The second bomb, which was planted in the middle of Kala Pul in Defence police limits, exploded with a loud sound, creating a big crater in the middle of the bridge and damaged the safety wall of the bridge. On December 9, 2011, a Rangers van was targeted in a third blast, that claimed three lives and injured two others at Saforan Goth.
Another bomb went off on University Road, killing one person and injuring three others.
Although there is no doubt that the LEAs are head-to-head to avert such happenings, the action should be intense and long to save Karachi from another massacre.
