The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) organised its 45th annual convocation, here on Saturday. The degrees were awarded to 208 FCPS fellows, 60 MCPS and 5 DCPS. Justice Rana Bhagwanadas (Retd) awarded two gold medals to position holders. Professors, head of various institutions, civil society members, parents of students attended the ceremony.
President CPSP Professor Zafar Ullah Chaudhry congratulated the students saying that the CPSP was established with the vision to promote specialist practice and to provide an apparatus to producing specialists who are trained to cater to the specialist health care needs of the country.
The president CPSP further said that CPSP qualification is widely recognised in the UK and Arab countries. The president CPSP in his opening speech further said that in order to facilitate this huge system of training and examinations, the College provides elaborate support systems in the form of various departments and units, both administrative and academic, at its headquarter in Karachi and 14 regional centers in different cities of the country. All centers are equipped with facilities for holding mandatory workshops for supervisors and trainees, seminars, examinations and meetings, IT facilities, Internet, literature search and video-conference, libraries and necessary equipment.
He thanked the Chief Guest, Justice Rana Bhagwandas (Retd) and extended his heartiest felicitation to the newly inducted fellows. Justice Bhagwandas (Retd) lauded the role of CPSP in the society saying that CPSP was a unique postgraduate institution, which had been striving for many decades to achieve its objective of promoting specialist medical practice in the country. He further said CPSP was undoubtedly serving the society and thanked CPSP and Professor Zafar Ullah Chaudhry for inviting him on this auspicious occasion.
Almost 90 percent of the specialist doctors working in both the public and private sector hospitals in the country have studied at CPSP. This august institute will celebrate its golden jubilee next year. The fellows produced by CPSP are serving both in Pakistan and abroad.
