Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the elimination of unemployment in the province. He said that the process of provision of interest free loans to unemployed youth for running their own business has been started through Akhuwat organisation.
He said that one billion rupees have been allocated for this purpose and these interest free loans are being given to the skilled youth on priority basis. He said that promotion of cottage industry for elimination of unemployment is vital and government is also paying full attention to the promotion of cottage industry.
He said this during a briefing given by renowned cricketer Aamir Suhail and Bashir Tahir regarding setting up of Career Opportunity Bureau (COB), here on Sunday. Addl. Chief Secretary, Secretary Higher Education, Chairman Punjab Vocational Training Council, Director General Sports and experts also attended the briefing meeting.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif terming the establishment of Career Opportunity Bureau for carrying career counselling for unemployed youth, collection of information about trained and untrained unemployed youths and courses for their training a welcoming step said that education, industry, labour, social welfare, sports and youth affairs, population welfare and other concerned departments should jointly formulate comprehensive recommendations for this purpose and submit within next four days and in the light of these recommendations, a strategy would be evolved in this regard. He said that the aims of institutions like Career Opportunity Bureau should be establishing contacts between the departments engaged in providing jobs to the jobless youths and in this way, such departments can achieve their objectives. He said that Punjab government is preparing skilled manpower according to the needs of the market and TEVTA has been made an active and vibrant institution for this purpose. He said that besides collecting data of unemployed youths, creation of job opportunities is also essential and Punjab government has been paying attention to it.
