ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi to bulldoze all illegal buildings and construction in Murree within five days.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar issued the directives while hearing a suo moto notice case regarding illegal constructions in Murree and also sought a compliance report in that regard.

During the course of proceedings, the DC apprised the court that many illegal buildings were built in Murree in 2003.

The chief justice remarked that Murree too was becoming a congested Raja Bazaar of Rawalpindi and directed the DC to arrange a bulldozer and demolish all the illegal buildings.

"Go to Murree and tell the people to demolish illegal buildings themselves or be ready for demolition," he said addressing the DC.

The chief justice said he had seen Murree’s Mall Road when he was young and witnessed it as he grew old. Submit a list of the people under whom these illegal structures appeared, he said and added, the structures seemed to have been built with the support of administration.

He said if anybody created hurdles in the execution of the apex court's orders, his name should be conveyed to the court.

He again directed the DC to submit the list of those who were directly or indirectly involved in such illegal constructions.

He warned the DC of consequences, if an inspection team later found any illegal building which was not demolished.

The case was adjourned till Tuesday (Jan 16).
