Robot race competitions: Punjab University team shows outstanding performance

Punjab University Department of Electrical Engineering students' team, comprising Muhammad Azam Jved, Syed Omer Saleh, Muhammad Abdul Basit and Mah Zeb Jamil, has shown outstanding performance in the robot race competitions held at Lahore University of Management Sciences (Lums) and IIEE Karachi.
According to the spokesperson at LUMS, 30 teams participated in the competition. In the quarter final, PU team beat the winner of NERC 2011, a robot named M6 of NUST and qualified for the semi-final. The PU team bagged third position in the competition with a difference of fraction of a second. Moreover, same students' team of PU clinched second position in robot race contest at IIEE, Karachi. A total of 30 teams from various universities participated in the contest.
Department's faculty member Umer Farooq supervised the students in these contests. PU Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran congratulated College Principal & Chairman, Professor Dr Rafique Ahmad, Supervisor Umer Farooq and students on these achievements and advised the students and faculty to work hard to bring fame for the varsity.
It is noteworthy that since 2008, teams of the Electrical Engineering Department have won 40 awards in various national as well as international contests, which in fact validate the Vice Chancellor's vision for promoting research culture in the varsity. While Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) organised a walk, here at New Campus on Thursday, on the eve of World Mental Health Day.
Besides the faculty members of the centre, a large number of students participated in the walk, which started from the centre and concluded in front of Institute of Education & Research (IER). The students set up stalls at six different sites on the campus, where students were provided with the information regarding mental disorders, their assessment, treatment and prevention.
