ADB providing $217.8 million loan for LBCIP

Secretary Irrigation Punjab Irfan Elahi on Thursday said Lower Bari Doab Canal Improvement Project (LBDCIP) would also cover the rehabilitation of Balloki barrage complex and rehabilitation/modernisation of Lower Bari Doab canal and its distributaries as well as minor canals. In a statement issued on Thursday, he said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was providing $217.8 million loan for Lower Bari Doab canal improvement project (LBCIP).
He said that over 250 km of main canal and over 2200 km of distributaries would be repaired under this project, which is expected to be completed by 2015. The civil works contracts for main canal and Balloki barrage have been awarded.
