The Karachi Transport Action Committee (KTAC) has urged the concerned officials to make equivalent the costs of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG).
KTAC President, Mohammad Ashraf Banglori and other office bearers of the association in a joint statement on Sunday said steady increase in the cost of LPG has severely compromised the public transport business in the country.
They demanded that LPG cost must be freezed for a minimum period of six months and that it may gradually be brought down at par with the CNG cost.
The KTAC officials said increase in the LPG cost also has its direct bearing on the life of commuters, that is the general public, already exposed to the flood of high living cost. The transporters expressed their inability to decipher as why LPG was made dearer than petrol.
They claimed that the process to make LPG was much simple and cost effective than the process adopted for CNG yet availability of former, that is, LPG was on higher side.
"This has gravely affected the livelihood of wagon and rickshaw drivers running their vehicle on LPG," said Banglori. He urged the government to either control the cost difference or assist in conversion of all LPG run vehicles into CNG propelled system.
