Power shortfall reduced on third day of Eid to 2093MW Friday from 4102MW a day earlier due to torrential rains across the province of Sindh. Demand for power came down to 14236MW from 18290MW. The power generation also registered a decline of about 2000MW, coming down to 12143MW from 14188MW. The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) reduced their generation by 2000MW with fall in demand.
A flood like situation in Sindh due to torrential rains on the occasion of Eid has saved the power authorities from cutting sorry figures. This situation is likely to persist for another week or so, suggests the weather forecasts till date. A number of factors, particularly closing down the operations by different industrial sectors on Eid, have played a vital role in reducing demand for power against limited generation capacity. Once the industry resumed operations from next week, the power situation may again be disturbed in the country, said the power sector analysts.
Further, any interruption to fuel supply owing to a number of reasons may also play havoc with the estimates of power authorities, as some circles believe that a bad law and order situation in Karachi after Eid may lead to disruption in fuel supply to the thermal units in upcountry.
