A Hong Kong man appeared in court Wednesday accused of hacking into the website of the city''s stock exchange this month, suspending some trading. Tse Man-lai, 28, is accused of accessing computers with dishonest or criminal intent following the cyber attacks on August 10.
The prosecution said one of Tse''s computers contained records of hacking activities against the Hong Kong Stock Exchange a few days later, on August 12 and 13. They requested more time to examine the 12 computers that police seized from Tse''s home and office, in the hope of finding evidence relating to the August 10 events.
The attack on the exchange stopped trading in seven companies'' shares, including blue chips HSBC Holdings Plc and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. The prosecution alleges Tse, who runs his own IT company, also explained to others how to use hacking software in a blog. No plea was entered and the case was adjourned until November 16. Tse was released on bail.
