Various offices of the federal and Sindh governments remained closed due the call for observing 'mourning day' by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). MQM had announced to observe 'mourning day' in Karachi and across the country against the ongoing ethnic bloodletting in Karachi.
Due to the 'mourning day' call, no office work could be carried out in many offices of the Federal and Sindh governments situated in the buildings and barracks of Pakistan and Sindh Secretariats. Lower grade employees of Pakistan and Sindh Secretariats use to come to their offices in public transport while a large number of officers have four-wheel vehicles and motor bikes for this purpose.
However, local transport was off the road due to the mourning day with all petrol and CNG stations remained closed. Due to this, a large number of officers/employees could not turn up to attend offices. When this scribe visited provincial government's offices situated in Sindh Secretariat (Tugluq House), it was revealed that there was very thin attendance of officers/employees. While many offices were closed due to no attendance.
The offices of provincial secretaries of Home, Planning and Development (P&D), Agriculture, Education, Irrigation, Sports, Coal and Energy, Labour, Excise and Taxation and Local Government are situated at different floors of Tugluq House. Similarly, official work remained disturbed in the seven-story building of new Sindh Secretariat, where offices of many ministers including senior minister for Education, Works and Services, Food, Women Development, Irrigation and Finance are situated.
Another building of Sindh Secretariat is located near the RTO building and offices of Anti Corruption Establishment, Zakat and Ushr, Population Welfare, Social Welfare, Culture, Housing, Inter provincial Co-ordination and other departments are situated there.
A large number of officers/employees of the said departments could not attend their offices on Tuesday. Offices of many federal institutions located in Pakistan Secretariat near MPA hostel, were remained closed due to the MQM mourning day call, as employees could not turn up to attend offices.
