Met Office on Tuesday forecast another spell of monsoon rains in upper parts of the country from today (Wednesday) that may produce scattered rains/thundershower with isolated heavy fall during the next 4-5 days.
According to Met Office, scattered rains/thundershower, with isolated heavy fall, may occur in Kashmir, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara, Bannu and Kohat divisions during the next 4-5 days. Scattered rains are also likely in parts of lower Sindh during Friday-Sunday, it added.
It said weather remained hot and humid in most parts of the country on Tuesday. However, isolated rain/thundershower occurred in Lahore division and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Flood Warning Centre has said that River Sutlej is in low flood level at Ganda Singh Wala and Head Sulemanki in Okara and Pakpattan districts and is likely to attain medium flood level during the next 24 hours as India has released 86,000 cusecs more water from its dams and barrages in the river which flows into Pakistan.
Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Khalid Sherdil told newsmen that PDMA had taken precautionary measures and dispatched boats for rescue and relief operations in Okara and Pakpattan districts as the water flow in the river was likely to be more than 80,000 cusecs, making it the biggest current in 15 years.
According to Flood Warning Centre, Indian has also released water in the Chenab River through its Tavi tributary and the water discharge in the river at Marala head-works rose to 100,300 cusecs at 1800 hours on Tuesday. The water level was still rising till filing of this report.
