Hundreds of Wapda workers held a protest rally on Tuesday against the continuous killings of innocent people in Karachi and demanded of the government to take result-oriented measures for restoring law and order in the port city of the country. The protest was organised by Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union.
The labour leaders said since the provincial government had filed to perform its constitutional obligations of protecting the life and property of the Karachi citizens, therefore, President Asif Ali Zardari should enforce Governor's rule in the province and appoint a neutral governor.
They also demanded that the government should not give any latitude to the criminals and that it should bring to book those who had committed crimes against humanity. The protestors were carrying banners in support of their demands. The Wapda workers also demanded of the government to produce cheap electricity through hydel power plants to overcome power shortage in the country.
They further demanded that the KESC and other government departments should pay their dues amounting to Rs 300 billion to Pepco so that the national utility could overcome its financial crunch. The protest march was led by veteran labour leader and General Secretary of the Union, Khurshid Ahmad.
