Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said the provincial government would ensure protection of women in the society, especially at workplace. Talking to counsellor of Alliance Against Sexual Harassment (AASHA) at the Workplace, Khurshid Banu, here on Saturday, he said that the government considered sexual harassment of women at any place as crime under section 509 of the Criminal Procedural Code (Cr.P.C).
He added that law has allowed to impose a penalty of Rs 0.5 million against accused and minimum imprisonment for 3 years or both punishments, saying that it was issued proper notification in this regard. Hussain said that the sexual harassment of women is a very sensitive issue. He said that some quarters were against the rights of women and disallowed them to work in male dominated society, which was a great dilemma confronting women. He stressed that the women should also be considered part of this society and should be allowed to work to earn a decent livelihood.
