Gusty winds coupled with rain hit the city's many parts on Saturday night leaving the power supply suspended but reduced the temperature level, while met office warned the current monsoon spell would continue for another 2-3 days in the country.
Met office says widespread rain and thundershower with isolated heavy falls were expected in upper Punjab, lower Sindh and Kashmir, while scattered rain and thundershower are likely in South Punjab, lower Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, north-east Balochistan and Hazara division.
It forecasts more monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls in lower Sindh (Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas), upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore) and Kashmir on Sunday and Monday. Heavy falls may cause urban flash flood in these parts of the country during the period, it adds. Under the severe weather warning, the met office says isolated heavy falls are expected in upper Punjab, lower Sindh and Kashmir during the next 24-36 hours. Scattered rain and thundershower hit Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Hazara and Sibbi, divisions besides Kashmir during the last 24 hours, the office says.
The met office recorded chief rain amount as in Kotli 46mm, Jaccobabad 22mm, Chakwal 22mm, Okara 22mm, Jehlum 15mm, Lahore (Airport) 13mm, Peshawar 12mm and Larkana 10mm during the last 24 hours. The Karachi weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with chances of rain and thundershower during the next 24 hours with temperature ranging between 29 degree centigrade and 31 degree centigrade, the forecast says.
With the rare gusty swirling in the metropolis, electricity supply to many parts came to halt during the late hours of Saturday. The affected areas were Defence View, Mahmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Shah Faisal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Korangi, Orangi, Landhi, Gulshan, Baldia, Saeedabad, Clinfton, FB Area, Garden, Lyari, North Karachi, Gulbahar, Pak Colony, Saddar, Khokhrapar, New Karachi, Buffer Zone, Liaqatabgad, Model Colony and Keamari.
