The steering committee of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has announced to go on strike from Thursday against the devolution of the institution and non-payment of salaries to the employees. Committee announced closure of emergency ward, OPD and other departments. All services at Operation Theatre will also remain closed for indefinite period.
The steering committee of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) comprising professors, doctors and nursing staff also announced to hold protest demo against devolution of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), National Institute of Child Health (NICH) and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Chairman of Young Nurses Association Akhtar Joya told Business Recorder that salaries of nurses have not been released, stipends of student nurses are overdue for five months.
He said that all nurses who are employed in the most intensive care units like ICU including emergency and Operation Theatre are entitled to get special allowances. The title of Charge Nurse should be replaced by the name of Nursing Officer in accordance with governmental declaration of ministerial level, Joya said.
In the light of supreme orders all the nurses may be catered departmental promotions after every five years by ensuring promotional prospect on justice basis, Joya said. On the other hand, People Paramedical Staff and Young Doctors Association have denounced the strike call, saying they would not support the agenda of some vested interests. They spared themselves from the given strike call and vowed to continue their professional duties in facility the larger interest of poor and helpless patients.
