Despite the fact that Pakistan's 65th Independence Day is falling in the holy month of Ramazan, hectic preparations afoot to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. In the wake of increasing demand of buntings, Pakistani flags, banners and badges, the makers of these items are working round the clock to meet the demand.
The markets particularly the Urdu Bazaar and Gumpat Road have turned into a sale points of Pakistan flags, stickers, banners and buntings, which have been printed in hundreds of thousands numbers. The business is in full swing, as these items are in great demand by the people across the country.
Different public and private sectors organisations are making arrangements to celebrate the Independence Day in a befitting manner by holding special functions including flag hoisting ceremonies. A number of public buildings would be illuminated including the Punjab University Old Campus, PMG office, Civil Secretariat etc.
Political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)have planned to celebrate the Independence Day with traditional fervour. The PML-N will hold main function at Hazoori Bagh Lahore on August 14 apart from holding rally on August 13. Nazaria Pakistan Trust and Tehrik-e-Pakistan Workers Trust have made special arrangements to celebrate the day. Preparations are also underway for sports competitions and literary and social activities to commemorate the Independence Day. Punjab government has issued directions to authorities concerned for making special security arrangements on the eve of Independence Day across the province. Police high ups have been asked to devise an integrated security plan for Independence Day. Control rooms will also be established to cope with emergency situation.
In order to provide effective security cover to more than 50 functions and rallies being held on August 14 in Lahore, more than 10,000 police officials would guard the city on Independence Day. The CCPO directed Lahore Police to take stern action against motorcyclists involved in one-wheeling and riding without silencers. Special teams have also been constituted to take immediate action against those indulging in unlawful activities.
