Former Law Minister Babar Awan Wednesday overruled the PML-N stance for formation of commission on new provinces, saying there is no constitutional provision. He was talking to media person in the pressroom of the Supreme Court, adding that question of new units establishment could be tabled in the concerned provincial legislative assembly as per the procedure laid down in the Constitution.
He made it clear that Punjab Assembly was the right forum where issue of new province for Saraiki belt could be resolved. While referring Thursday (today) Punjab Assembly session Awan said that in the Holy month of Ramazan the treasury bench of the provincial assembly would not disappoint the people of Saraiki belt.
By disagreed on allegations levelled against PPP for gaining political mileage on establishment of new provinces he said that credit goes to PPP that had first made new province of Balochistan whereas during the present tenure it established the province of Gilgit Baltistan.
Similarly, it was in the credit of PPP that it had constituted Balochistan High Court whereas Islamabad High Court was also established by the party, strengthening judiciary and legal fraternity, he added. Being the biggest political party of the federation PPP has been given mandate to make new provinces in the country, however, the opposition would also be given an opportunity to table its point of view over the issue during the recent Punjab Assembly session, Babar Awan hoped.
