At least five persons including two activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed in targeted killings at various parts of the metropolis, on Monday. According to police, two activists of MQM were gunned down in a drive-by shooting at Abul Hassan Ispahani Road within the jurisdiction of Mobina Town police station.
They said unidentified shooters, riding on a motorcycle, targeted two young men, said to be affiliated with MQM. The victims were identified as Zain Ali, 25, son of Syed Nawab Ali and Mansoor, 26, son of Qadir. Police said Zain, who used to run air condition and refrigerator repairing shop, was killed when he was sitting along with his friend Mansoor at his shop.
Following the said incident, tension prevailed in the area and other surroundings where miscreants resorted to firing and forced the shopkeepers to pull down their shutters. Meanwhile, heavy contingent of police and Rangers cordoned off the area to bring law and order situation under control. Police said the bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities.
Meanwhile, a bystander and an unknown person were killed while around half a dozen others wounded in an armed clash between two political groups at Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police said the victim was identified as Salman, 18, son of Javed and while around half a dozen others injured were Ajmal Tareen, Akram Tareen, Anis, Iqbal, Shah Rukh and Shoaib.
Police said the armed clash was between the activists of MQM and ANP. Police said Salman was a resident of Rabia City while others' identity was yet to be ascertained. Subsequently, miscreants, who took to the streets at Pehalwan Goth, Safoora Chowrangi and other parts of Gulistan Jauhar, resorted to heavy firing. Police sources said the authorities concerned have planned to conduct search operation at Rabia City and surroundings.
Meanwhile, body of a youth was found near Lyari Lake within the jurisdiction of Sher Shah police station. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained. Police said the deceased, who had several torture marks on his body, appeared to be in his mid-20s. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification. No case was registered till filing of this report.
