The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre's (SKMCH&RC) budget has been increased to Rs 3.5 billion out of which half is met from Zakat and donations. The hospital has spent over Rs 9 billion on the treatment of poor cancer patients till date out of which 75 percent get free treatment of cancer. With a view to recognise donors' contribution, the hospital is going to organise an Iftar dinner in honour of its donors and well wishers here at the hospital on Friday (today).
According to the hospital's spokesman, Imran Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, will be the chief guest on the occasion and the event is expected to be attended by a large number of donors and supporters and members Board of Governors of the hospital. This Iftar dinner is part of Shaukat Khanum's Zakat collection campaign launched for the treatment of its patients. It is pertinent to mention here that the money collected from Zakat is spent directly on patients' treatment and healthcare, he added.
