Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Nadeem-ul-Haque said that economic policy is broader than the usual fiscal policy.
He said this while addressing "Youth Idea Challenge", documentary screening and award distribution ceremony here on Tuesday organised by Planning Commission of Pakistan in collaboration with UNDP chaired by Dr Nadeem-ul-Haque, which was also attended by Dr Javaid R. Lahgari, Chairman HEC, Shahid Sattar, Member Energy Planning Commission, Haroon Sharif; Country Head DFID, Talat Hussain; renowned journalist, Diplomats, Vice Chancellors, faculty members and students of various universities and representatives of the donor organisations.
Dr Nadeem-ul-Haque said, "We have to learn from the global knowledge pool. Economic policy is creative way of countering risk. The idea of Youth Idea Challenge was to include youth in our new economic strategy". Planning Commission of Pakistan has conducted a Video Documentary competition, "Youth Idea Challenge", to kick off the process of engaging youth in public policy making and to empower youth and community through voice, opportunities and education.
The themes of the documentaries flow from the New Growth Strategy prepared at the Planning Commission and approved by the National Economic Council headed by the Prime Minister. The entries are based on one or more of the following themes: our cities, knowledge and productivity, social networking, youth entrepreneurship and market reforms.
Nineteen documentaries were screened in two categories. Students were divided into two age groups; first category included students between 13-19 years and second was of students of 20-25 years. Winners and runner-ups were chosen from both categories.
The students who won the prizes from first category were Muhammad Aleem Ansari of Generation School Karachi, Sabeeh Ahmad, Haider Alki and Blal Shakeel from Beaconhouse Garden Town Lahore and Syed Faizan Raza Rizvi from Roots School System Islamabad. Winners of the second category were Wajahat Ahmad from Bahria University Islamabad, Syed Ahmed Faran from NUST Islamabad and Ehsan Gul, Mohsin Gul and M.A. Jamil. The screening committee included Talat Hussain, Ali Akbar Abbas, PTV, Hassan Hayat, PTV, Jonathan Wolfington, US Embassy and Haroon Sharif, DFID.-PR
