Fasting is the most effective method for lowering blood pressure and normalising cardiovascular function besides it is also beneficial for making respiratory, digestive systems of human being perfect. Health experts said that fasting is exceptionally beneficial in chronic cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure, reducing triglycerides, atheromas, total cholesterol, and increasing HDL levels.
They underscored that fasting is beneficial in epilepsy, reducing the length, number, and severity of seizures. Fasting is especially effective for helping alleviate or cure childhood epilepsy. They added. General Secretary Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (Karachi) Dr Abdul Malik said diabetic patient could also fast by taking 60 percent medicine in Aftaar and rest of 40 percent in Sehar.
Diabetic patient having complication should not fast if it could not maintain his dosage, Dr Malik advised, adding Islam allows that a patient have right to monitor his glucose average, he or she may breakfast if his glucose level is lower than 60mg. Dr Abdul Malik said the PIMA was working on many fronts and its aim is to help people in need and provide them healthcare facilities as majority of population could not afford to have quality treatment and medicines due to poverty and illiteracy.

Fasting induces significant anti inflammatory actions in the body and researchers found decreased pain, stiffness, and need for medication.
Nutritionist Dr Faiza Khan of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said people don't know that about their eating habits during Ramazan a single person taking huge amount of calories by using fried food items specially Samosa and Pakora having calories like meet or egg. She added the major reason of cardio metabolic diseases is unhealthy food. Faiza said for healthy life that would be better if everyone take its meal regularly on time.
She underlined that during the holy month of Ramazan; our diet should not differ very much from our normal diet and should be as simple as possible. "The diet should be such that we maintain our normal weight, neither losing nor gaining. However, if one is over-weight, Ramadan is an ideal time to normalise one's weight", she guided.
In view of the long hours of fasting, we should consume slow digesting foods including fiber containing-foods rather than fast-digesting foods; slow digesting foods. Slow digesting foods last up to 8 hours, while fast-digesting foods last for only 3 to 4 hours. Slow-digesting foods are foods that contain grains and seeds like barely, wheat, oats, millet, semolina, beans, lentils, etc. Dr Ijaz Vohra said that those patients easily fast who prepare themselves before Ramdan and taking their medicine with long time span .He added people who suffer with severe asthma problem should not fast.
Former President Pakistan Medical Association Dr Qaiser Sajjad highlighted that fasting is extremely effective in helping the body to quickly resolve the problems that create the need for the symptoms that we know as acute disease. These symptoms include things like fever, inflammation, pain, etc. It is in acute disease that we see the most dramatic results from short-term fasting.
He said that fasting is also effectively utilised in chronic disease. Chronic disease often has its origin in acute diseases that are never resolved or suppressed. Fasting allows the body an opportunity to generate an acute response in a chronic condition. Other diseases that have responded to fasting are psychosomatic disease, neurogenic bladder, psoriasis, eczema, thrombophlebitis, varicose ulcers, fibromyalgia, neurocirculatory disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, bronchial asthma, lumbago, depression, neurosis, schizophrenia, duodenal ulcers, uterine fibroids, intestinal parasites, gout, allergies, hay fever, hives, multiple sclerosis, and insomnia.
