The dollar hit the high level against the rupee on the local currency market on Monday due to strong buying by importers, dealers said. The rupee fell sharply against the US currency losing 23 paisa for buying at 86.78 and lost 21 paisa for selling at 86.80, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the first Asian trade dollar enjoyed a relief rally against the yen and Swiss franc on Monday as US lawmakers clinched a deal to trim fiscal spending, easing concerns of an imminent US debt default and prompting traders to unwind safe haven plays.
Commodity currencies climbed with the New Zealand dollar hitting a fresh post-float high against the US dollar, and the Australian dollar nearing a 29-year peak hit last week.
The yuan closed up against dollar after hitting a record trading high on Monday, as the People's Bank of China set an all-time high mid-point fixing, following the sinking dollar index. OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed five paisa in relation to the US currency for buying at 86.20 while it managed to keep weekend level for selling at 86.35, they added. The rupee continued its decline against euro, shedding 57 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 124.27 and Rs 124.77, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee lost 5 pais on buying side and 10 paisa on selling side in relation to dollar at Lahore currency market on Monday.
According to dealers, the dollar commenced trading at last week's Rs 86.10 and Rs 86.25 as buying and selling rates, and moved up to Rs 86.15 and Rs 86.35 respectively.
However, the rupee recovered some of its earlier loss on buying side while it remained unchanged on selling side against pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 140.50 and Rs 141.50 as compared to last Saturday closing of Rs 140.80 and Rs 141.50 respectively, dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against dollar at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.45 (selling) against same overnight values. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.45 (selling).
