Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Sunday that Judiciary has been functioning freely and independently in the country and verdict awarded by the Accountability Court in SGS case is a clear proof in this regard.
Talking to media persons on Sunday here she said verdict itself indicates that the judiciary is working independently in the country. The verdict has proved the innocence of President Asif Ali Zardari and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed in the case, she said. The Minister said that PPP leadership always believed in the dignity and honour of the state institutions adding that the verdict of the court not only would pave the way for upholding the supremacy of truth and justice but also free and independent judiciary would infuse strength to democratic institutions.
Some elements are trying to create crisis for the elected government but they failed in their nefarious designs to weaken the government, she said. PPP-led government, she said, would continue its sincere efforts serving the nation and fulfil its promise at all costs. PPP leadership believes in democracy and is trying to resolve all political issues democratically and we don't believe in political victimisation, she said.
The Minister said the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in its desire to serve the nation to the best of its ability always pursues the politics of principles. It has avoided the practice of promoting personalities at the cost of national honour as a result of which we have won the confidence and favour of the people and people are fully aware about the friends and foes, Dr Firdous said.
