Executive fully cooperating with judiciary: Justice Iqbal

Justice Javed Iqbal of Supreme Court here Saturday said the executive is fully co-operating with the judiciary on the implementation of court decisions, and whatever little has been left will also be settled down through consensus and without any conflict.
He made these remarks while addressing a reception hosted in his honour by Punjab Bar Council before his retirement. According to him, there is no confrontation between the judiciary and the executive in relation to implementation of court orders and only a few that are needed implemented are those awaiting decisions at review stage. Dispelling the impression of a confrontation between judiciary and executive, he termed it "a brainchild of TV channels."
He said, the situation in the country was not that good to afford confrontation between the institutions. According to Justice Javed, judiciary is the product of the constitution while the parliament is a supreme forum for making the Constitution. But both the institutions must jealously use their powers for the betterment and prosperity of the nation and the country, he added.
Speaking on the judicial system, said our system is far from perfection, although it has made a lot of progress in this regard. He also highlighted role of lawyers in the overall improvement of the system. He said the role of a lawyer in the judicial system is as good as that of a judge. Replying to a query from media persons, Justice Javed said the Supreme Court is duty-bound to interpret the laws made by the legislators and both the organs perform their duties with an aim to do good for the country.
To another question, Justice Javed strongly rejected the reports and impressions that judiciary was part of a conspiracy to rule the country as army's partner and for that reason it was involved in a confronting with the executive. Justice Javed appreciated army's role in the performance of its duties. Answering a query whether the SC will be calling the army in aid of implementation of its decisions, he said, it was unnecessary and there was no scope of calling the armed forces as the decisions were being implemented by the government. In Zafar Qureshi case, the government has requested for time; the NRO case is pending in review. So it is clear that the decisions are not being flouted, he added.
Asked whether he would continue to head the Commission on Abbottabad incident of May 2 after retirement, he said he would continue to perform that job after his retirement. According to him, the report of the commission will be made public any time soon.

Senior Judge of the Lahore High Court, Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Vice Chairman of the Council, Lahrasab Khan Gondal, Chairman Executive Committee Zafar Mahmood Moghal, other present and former judicial luminaries also attended the reception.
