CID martyrs' memorial: - lauds police sacrifices in war on terrorism

US Ambassador Cameroon Munter on Friday visited the site of CID building blast to show solidarity with the martyrs and injured police personnel and condole with bereaved families. He was accompanied by his spouse Dr Marilyn Wyatt, US Consul General William Martin and acting public affairs officer Andie De Arment.
On his arrival, he was received by Inspector General Sindh Police Wajid Ali Durrani and senior police officials. He went to the site and laid floral wreath at the martyrs' memorial, inside CID building and observed one minute silence as a symbol of respect. He also met with the family members of deceased police officials and also inquired about the health of police Jawans injured in November 11, 2010 blast.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that United States would continue to support police, law enforcing agencies and citizens of Pakistan in the war against terrorism. The US Envoy said he was honoured to take part in this memorial inauguration which was a symbol of common work together. "The CID officials who died in the blast, have given their lives to further the cause of peace and to secure future for their families and for the citizens of Karachi, Pakistan and for the world," he noted.
"We recognise the accomplishments of CID and all branches of Sindh Police in the fight against violent extremism. Police are on the front line and fighting extremism and we honour their bravery and their sacrifices", he observed. Munter said that Americans applaud the efforts of CID and honoured that more than 1,800 Sindh Police officials had been killed in the line of duty since 1982.
"We offer complete support to Sindh Police, all Pakistanis and law enforcement agencies who are engaged in the daily war against terrorism and against dangerous criminal elements. We wish to remember those who died in this cause and offer condolences to their families whom we have opportunity to meet today. I think that this is the essence of our partnership and I am proud to be here", he remarked. IG Police Wajid Durrani thanked US Ambassador for visiting the memorial site and showing solidarity with CID and Sindh Police. He said it was a good gesture and he was grateful for the US co-operation in war against terrorism.
