The High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Multan, on Friday expressed its deep concern over the clash between judiciary and executive, saying that it could result in destabilising the country, and the democratic process. The HCBA Executive Committee held a meeting at the bar complex under the chairmanship of its president Sagheer Ahmed and unanimously passed a resolution against the government for defying court's orders.
Members of the committee strongly condemned actions of those sitting at the helm of affairs responsible for disobeying the apex court orders, and warned the government that the HCBA would use all its options, including reviving the lawyers' movement.
Members of the committee said they fully supported the SC and stood behind it in their resolve for the supremacy of constitution and rule of law. They resolved that the HCBA would take appropriate measures, if the government did not mend its ways, the resolution passed at the meeting stated. Former vice chairmen of Pakistan Bar Council Abbas Ahmed and Aziz Akbar Baig stated that the lawyers would go to any extent to ensure that all state institutions strictly implement Supreme Court decisions.
They said that in the parliamentary system, there should not be any clash of institutions and all should obey the command of judiciary. Abbas said that the government should not give the impression that it had any clash with the judiciary and it should immediately follow the commands of the Supreme Court in the Judges, NICL, Zafar Qureshi and other cases.
He said that the lawyers were also in favour of credible and honest officers, and the lawyers would support them. He said that the elected body would take up the matter in the general house, which would decide its line of action if the government failed to implement the judgements of the Supreme Court.
