Essential commodities' prices: LHC seeks government's reply by August 1
Lahore High Court here Friday sought replies from the federal and Punjab governments by August 1 in a petition against government's failure to control prices of essential commodities, black marketing and profiteering by traders during Ramzan.
The petitioner, Chairman Judicial Activism Panel (JAP), Muhammad Azhar Siddique pointed out that in Pakistan some black sheep are making profit in the name of religion while federal and provincial governments have badly failed in controlling the prices of essential commodities and is unable to nab hoarding and black marketing.
He said it is the constitutional duty of both the federal and provincial governments, to ensure provision of essential commodities to the citizens at reasonable rate however they stayed aloof from the suffering of the people. He said the government is unable to control the prices of essential goods like wheat, maize, sugar, fruits and vegetables which has made the life of common man miserable.
