The government and its coalition partners on Thursday negated the widely held perception of a confrontation between government and judiciary and discussed matters such power/gas shortages and price hike in the country. The coalition partners also took stock of the political and economic situation and discussed in detail.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani chaired the meeting with coalition partners at Aiwan-e-Sadr which was also attended by Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Senator Dr Babar Awan, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Senator Muhammad Zahid Khan, Senator Kalsoom Perveen, Munir Khan Orakzai, MNA, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, MNA, and spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar.
After the meeting, the sources told Business Reorder that the coalition partners were of the view that the judiciary and government should not lock horns but try to work in their respective spheres so as to avert any sort of confrontation between the two institutions.
The President briefed the coalition partners on his recent visits to Iran, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia and said that these visits was meant to develop better understanding with all the three countries because without taking them on board Afghan issue cannot be resolved amicably. Those who attended the meeting expressed views candidly on various critical issues. The meeting lasted for over two and half hours.
