Landhi and Malir stayed shut Saturday to mourn the deaths of over a dozen people in Friday's carnage. All shops and markets at Saudia Colony, KDA Chowk, Jaffar Tayyar Society, Khokhrapar, Salman Parsi Gate, Liaquat Market, Post Office Stop, Mohammad Market, Hussaini Chowk, Sherpao Colony, Landhi 89 and other were closed. Three persons, who were targeted in Friday's ambush, were laid to rest in a local graveyard.
According to police, heavy contingents of LEAs were deployed in sensitive areas. Heavy firing continued at several parts of Malir and Landhi, suspending all commercial and social activities in these areas. 30-year-old Tahir son of Zahir was shot dead in Urdu Nagar near Mono Technical College in the limits of Malir City police station. Armed assailants targeted Tahir when he was on his way to buy groceries. Police said the victim was the resident of Saudia Colony and a vegetable vendor. SP Malir Town Zahid Hussain told BR that two more persons, who were killed on Friday, were laid to rest in Khokhrapar graveyard and the police had maintained watertight security during funeral procession.
He said LEAs have brought law and order situation under control in Malir district. Meanwhile, police sources claimed that no case was registered by Khokhrapar police in connection with Friday's killing. They said Rangers have detained over 40 suspects with weapons during search operation late Friday. They said these suspects were transported to unknown place for interrogation. However, the LEAs denied to have conducted any such operation, saying they did not detain any suspect from the troubled areas. The SHO Khokhrapar PS said heirs of the victims have so far not approached police to lodge FIR.
