US copper jumps

Published Updated

Copper touched its priciest levels in more than three months on Tuesday as upbeat demand prospects in two of the world's biggest consumers helped to keep a surprisingly strong summer rally intact.
In New York, the key September COMEX contract shot up 6.50 cents, or 1.5 percent, to settle at $4.4680 per lb, near the upper end of its $4.4045 to $4.4960 session range. The gains placed both London and New York prices just 3 percent shy of their record peaks of $10,190 per tonne and $4.63 per lb, respectively.
