The central committee of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) has urged upon the government to take measures on war footing basis to end the energy crisis in the country which had shattered our economy.
Entire national economy might be hit if ginning industry was not saved from the prevailing crisis, told Shehzad Ali Khan Senior Vice Chairman, Haji Muhammad Akram, Shaikh Muhammad Saeed ex-Chairman, former Vice Chairman Aman-Ullah Qureshi, Mahesh Kumar and Shaikh Asim Saeed while briefing the journalists about the issues discussed in the meeting.
They said that government should ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity because ginning industry was a base of textile sector, which earns more than 60 percent foreign exchange through exports. They said that ginning industry, which is backbone of country's economy, was being pushed towards an alley and its bad-effects were emerging on the entire economy.
He warned that if Multan Electric Power company (Mepco) Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco)and Faisalabad Electric Company (Fesco) do not supply electricity on top priority basis to ginning factories then country would lose the fruit of current cotton crop.
They claimed that ginning industry was contributing 65 percent in national economy. They said that government should redress the grievances of the ginners at early stage. They said that maximum area was brought under cotton by the farmers keeping in view the prices in international market during last year. They would be disappointed if fair return of their produce was given to them. PCGA leaders further said that provincial government should make necessary arrangements for the security of ginners and their employees because they do transaction of millions of rupees daily and special patrolling squad be deployed in the area of ginning factories. They reiterated their demand to introduce Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) as an alternate buyer to stabilise the prices of cotton market.
