The Jamaat-e-Islami will observe complete solidarity day with the oppressed people of Balochistan on July 19 (Tuesday) by staging a sit-in at Quetta and holding public meetings and rallies at major cities all over the country. The arrangements for the day were finalised at a meeting chaired by the JI chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, at Mansoora, on Sunday.
Besides the Quetta sit-in, which would be led by the JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan, the JI will hold public meetings at Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore and Hyderabad and Abbotabad on the day to apprise the local people of the situation in Balochistan, so as to seek public support for solving the same. Senior JI leader Professor Ghafoor Ahmed will lead the Karachi rally. Syed Munawar Hasan, while addressing the preparatory meeting, said that the people all over the country were concerned over the target killings and military operations in Balochistan. Hundreds of people, including women were missing, and bodies of the people were being found frequently.
He said the people of Balochistan could not be satisfied merely by holding federal cabinet meeting at Quetta. The government, he said, had announced the grant of rights to the Baluch people but nothing had been done in this direction. Military operation was still continuing in the province and bodies of the abducted persons were found in far-flung areas. The writ of the government was nowhere to be found in the province. He said the people of Balochistan were patriotic and the JI alone was fighting the case of the Baluch people both in the corridors of power and in the fields.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that the leaders coming into power on the slogan of Roti, Kapra and Makan had done nothing for the masses but were simply serving selfish interests.
