Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday approved two-year extension in service of Fauzia Abbas, Ambassador to Denmark on humanitarian grounds after the death of her husband. Former Ambassador Shahbaz, the husband of Fauzia Abbas died of cancer on June 30 this year. In a meeting with Fauzia Abbas at the PM House, the Prime Minister expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and offered fateha for the departed soul.
He appreciated the professional credentials of the former Ambassador Shahbaz and observed that deceased was an officer of high stature and represented the country in a most distinguished manner particularly as Ambassador in Vienna. The Prime Minister took the decision purely on humanitarian grounds for the benefit of the minor children of Fauzia Abbas.
He advised Fauzia to continue performing her duties as Ambassador in Denmark, and use her best abilities in the service of her country. Shahbaz during his postings in Geneva, Hague and Vienna, acquired great expertise in the field of disarmament and chemical weapons. He earned a reputation for himself as a spokesperson of the G-77 in Vienna.
