Low-lying Rawalpindi areas flooded

Heavy rain lashes the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad and low lying areas were flooded and people began to shift for safer places due to flood in Nullah Leh. New Katrian, Gawalmandi and Javed Colony hit by the flood in Nullah, and water gush into the houses of the residents and markets were closed.
The city district government blow up the siren to alert the people of the areas adjoining with the Nullah Leh, particularly in low lying areas. The residents of Waris Khan, Glass Factory, Mokh Singh State, Dhoke Khaba, Umer Road, Nadeem Colony, Dhoke Elahi Bukush, Arya Mohallah, Javed Colony demanded the City District Government to take more steps to avoid flood like situation.
Muhammad Arshad from Nadeem Colony said that there is dire need to clean the nullahs properly adding that main reason of the flood is blockage of the nullahs. He stressed that silt and solid waste should be taken out to save the people from the flood devastation.
As Punjab government had provided Rs 47 million for cleanliness of Nullah Lia but low lying areas have not been cleared from silt and solid waste, he said, adding the nullahs should further widened and deepened to save the city from flood devastation. It is mentioned that City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) has made other arrangements with setting up of flood relief camps to provide relief to the people in case of heavy monsoon rains. The Meteorological department has forecast more rains during this monsoon season as compared to the last year. In the past, flood hit low lying areas as property worth million of rupees was destroyed and precious lives were perished.
