Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the government was making efforts to develop FATA and ensure wellbeing of its people through consensus-based process including legal reforms. Talking to journalists on the occasion of oath taking ceremony of newly-elected office-bearers of Khyber Union of Journalists at Governor's House, Peshawar on Saturday, he said.
"President Asif Ali Zardari and the government have deep attachment with the tribal people." He said that he would spare no effort to project the cause of the people of FATA at every level. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan was chief guest of the ceremony, which besides the members of Khyber Union of Journalists, Tribal Union of Journalists, senior government officials was also attended by the provincial minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain and the Parliamentary Leader of FATA parliamentarians in National Assembly Munir Orakzai.
Barrister Masood Kausar said, "FATA has been affected because of the challenging circumstances prevailing for quite some time. But at the same time, socio-economic development activities are also progressing with an astonishing speed."
This unique sort of situation, he remarked, needs to be projected as well. "The war like situation, which we confronted with in this region, is in fact meant for security of the entire motherland wherein sacrifices of all segments of the society including the media are highly praiseworthy," he added.
The most encouraging aspect of the whole situation, the Governor said, is that the entire nation and its all institutions are fully united to completely overcome the challenges of terrorism and extremism. "Keeping in view the given situation, there is a need that media should contribute more significantly in projecting the soft image and positive aspects of life especially with regard to the socio economic developments taking place in FATA," he added.
