Punjab Finance Minister Kamran Michael has said that the Punjab government will soon undertake legislation for ensuring protection, wages and medical allowance for skilled women workers. He was addressing one-day exhibition of home-based women workers from all over Punjab, arranged by Women Development Department and Rahnuma Family Planning Association here on Friday.
Kamran Michael said economic independence of women is necessary for development of the country. He also said 21st Century is the century of light and the Pakistani women are very talented and have beautifully expressed their skill in the items displayed at the exhibition. "Such events should be held frequently for the encouragement of women so as to provide them opportunity to move forward," he added.
Thirty-one stalls were set up at the exhibition, including embroidery, bed sheets, cushions, jewellery and decorative pieces. The Minister visited every stall and appreciated the standard of the products displayed at the exhibition. Later, he distributed prizes among women, belonging to Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Muzaffargarh and Cholistan. He also gave away certificates for the encouragement of women participating in the exhibition. Secretary Social Welfare and Women Development and Baitulmal, Major Retd. Shahnawaz Badar also visited the exhibition and appreciated the skill of women workers. Director Women Development Department, Sajjad Haider Sipra, Director Co-ordinator, Rukhsana Nafees and social welfare officers were also present.
