The Saleem Shahzad murder commission was provided complete data of cellphone calls of the slain journalist whereas the cyber wing of the FIA was directed to produce email record of the deceased in a week. Similarly, National Highways Authority was asked to bring footage record from the cameras, installed on Toll Plazas of GT Road between Islamabad, Tarkai and Jhelum wherein Punjab police was also directed to submit investigation report of the case in the next meeting.
The commission meeting was held in the Supreme Court on Saturday with Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in the chair. After the meeting, Federal Secretary Information and Broadcasting, Taimur Azmat Usman who is also secretary of the commission told media that it was the third meeting of the commission, adding that 17 senior journalists participated and discussed ways to unearth the facts of the case as well as to support the commission proceedings in a meaningful manner.
He said journalists who were in contact with the slain correspondent or willing to provide any information related to the case have been asked to submit their written statements before the commission till the fourth meeting of the commission, scheduled on July 18. The journalist who participated in the meeting included, Absar Alam, Atif Khan, Imtiaz Alam, Umar Cheema, Najam Sethi, Aizaz Syed, Nasim Zehra, CR Shamsi, Hamid Mir, Zafar Sheikh and Matiullah Jan with others whereas Talat Hussain, Ali Dayan, Hameed Haroon and Zahid Hussain were not able to come to the commission's meeting.
"Two journalists including Matiullah Jan and Atif Khan gave their statements before the commission this day," the Secretary Information added. The fourth meeting of the commission will be held in Islamabad on July 18, 2011. In reply to a question, PFUJ President Shaukat Pervez said after the meeting, "It would be premature to express anything so we should wait for the findings of the commission."
