Fiscal year 2011 external financing: EAD yet to compile data

The Economic Affairs Division (EAD) has yet to compile data on total external financing in FY11, 10 days after the year ended. A senior official of the EAD, on condition of anonymity said, "it will take another 10-15 days to compile the data on the external support we received during the outgoing fiscal year."
The complete data of the first three quarters (from July 2010 to March 2011) is already available with the Division. It is merely a matter of compiling statistics of external assistance received by Pakistan from April 2011 to 30 June and adding it to the available data of the first three quarters. However, according to the Division, it would take some 10-15 days to compile the data.
A source in EAD stated that it is not clear whether this data would be made available to media or not. It seems impossible to verify the claims of external assistance made in the budget documents for FY11. The federal budget 2011-12 revealed revised external loans of Rs 255 billion - Rs 33 billion less than the budgetary estimates of 2010-11. Total foreign assistance received by Pakistan during the first nine months of the current fiscal year stands at $1.4 billion against commitments worth $2.84 billion made by foreign donors for the period.
The country's External Debt and Liabilities (EDLs) increased from $55.9 billion in June 2010 to $59.5 billion in March 2011 depicting an increase of $3.6 billion. USA has disbursed $136.5 million to Pakistan during the first three quarters of FY11 while the total amount received from bilateral donor agencies of Germany and Japan during the same period stands at $137.6 million.
