Andy and Jamie Murray put Great Britain firmly in control of their Davis Cup clash with Luxembourg here Saturday, winning their doubles match in straight sets to give the home side a 2-1 lead. The Scottish duo, making their debut as a doubles pair in the Davis Cup, proved too powerful for Luxembourg's Mike Vermeer and Laurent Bram, winning 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 in front of a delighted home crowd.
The win leaves Britain as favourites to win the Europe/Africa Zone Group II second round clash ahead of Sunday's decisive reverse singles rubbers. Afterward the Murray siblings were pleased to have got their Davis Cup partnership off to a winning start.
"It was brilliant," Jamie Murray said. "It was everything I expected and more. It took about four or five games for the goose bumps to go away. "But it was an amazing experience. And to be able to do it with your brother is something we only dreamed of growing up." World number four Andy Murray was equally satisfied. "I thought it was good, we played a lot better in the second and third set," the Wimbledon semi-finalist said.
