Canadian canola futures rise

Published Updated

ICE Canadian canola futures gained on Thursday for the fourth straight session, following US soyabeans and MATIF rapeseed higher, traders said. Canola lagged gains in other oilseeds as Canadian dollar strengthened. Weather seen as mixed influence, with ideal conditions helping Western Canada crops partly recover from late seeding. November gained $3.20 at $561.40 on volume of 10,229 contracts.
January rose $4.10 to $570 on 1,196 contracts, mostly in spreading with November. Delivery of 73 July contracts on Thursday, with expiry July 14. Open interest of near-month contract down to 131 as of Wednesday. Chicago Board of Trade August soyabeans gained 18-1/2 US cents to US $13.40-3/4 per bushel, on concerns about drier, warmer weather in the US Midwest. August soyaoil added 1.18 cent to 56.61 US cents per lb.
MATIF November rapeseed settled up 1.3 percent at 445.25 euros. Canadian dollar was trading at $0.9595 to the US dollar, or US $1.0422 at 1:15 pm CDT (1815 GMT), up from Wednesday's North American finish at $0.9656, or US $1.0356. NYMEX crude oil settled up 2.1 percent at US $98.67 per barrel on stronger than expected US data on jobless claims and retail sales.
