Pakistan Meteorological Department on Thursday forecast a second spell of monsoon rain in the upper parts of the country in next 24 hours. It said that fairly wide spread thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Sargodha divisions and Kashmir.
Scattered thunderstorm/rain is expected over Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and isolated rain is also expected over south Punjab. "More monsoon rains are likely to continue in upper parts of the country in next 48 hours," they added.
They attributed the second spell of monsoon rains to strong monsoon current that that is reaching Punjab and Kashmir from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Also, trough of westerly wave is moving across northern parts of the country, while a seasonal low lies-over north-east Balochistan.
Meanwhile, many parts of the country received rain, including Jhelum 74 mm, Islamabad (airport) 54 mm, Muzaffarabad 51 mm, Sialkot (city) 40 mm, Kotli and Islamabad (Zero Point) 33 mm (each), Kakul 28 mm, Sialkot (airport) 22 mm, Mangla 21 mm, Rawalakot 11 mm, Garhi Dupatta 10 mm, Panjgur 7 mm, Murree and Zhob 4 mm (each) and Mandi-Baha-ud-Din 1 mm.
