Lahore High Court here Thursday gave another opportunity to federal government to file reply in a petition filed by Chief Jamatut Dawa, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, seeking implementation of a unanimous resolution passed by parliament to stop US drone attacks.
Earlier, a Deputy Attorney General appeared on behalf of federal government and sought time to secure a reply from government and the court accordingly allowed him time.
The petitioner's counsel AK Dogar objected on DAG's plea and said federal government had made it habit not to file replies in cases. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed observed that the court could not proceed with the case unless federal government filed a reply in this regard. The court adjourned hearing till July 13.
Hafiz Saeed had filed a constitutional petition through his counsel A.K Dogar and also prayed that federal government be directed to make public the information in all matters of public importance, especially the 'secret deals' with the US in implementation of article 19-A of the constitution, which entitles every citizen of Pakistan to have access to all information.
The petitioner asked the court to declare that the pre-emptive strikes by foreign countries are not permitted by international law, therefore, every man, woman and child have a right to claim to be protected and a direction in the nature of mandamus may be issued to the government.
He reminded that the resolution passed by a joint session of national assembly on May 14 last was a voice of the people and needs to be implemented. Advocate Dogar also pleaded that president, prime minister and all state functionaries be made to follow simple life of Holy Prophet (PBUH) to get rid of foreign debt and luxury borrowing.
