Taiwan stocks close down; textile counters weigh

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks ended 2.28 percent lower on Thursday, joining a broad decline in regional bourses, with textile counters and carmakers among the biggest losers, both plummeting close to 4 percent.

The main TAIEX index was down 157.98 points at 6,764.59, after opening down 0.7 percent.

Electronics shares fell 2.18 percent, with TSMC , the world's top contract chip maker, shedding 2.68 percent, and Apple supplier Hon Hai Precision tumbling 3.79 percent.

The financial sub-index dropped 2.85 percent.

The Taiwan dollar weakened 0.14 percent to trade at T$30.332.

Foreign investors were net sellers on Wednesday, but remained net buyers of T$28.0 billion this month.
