The United States will provide technical assistance to FM Radio stations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government along with improvement in their managerial, operational, and production capabilities under a letter of agreement signed here at the Chief Minster's House on Monday.
The Chief Minster Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Hiader Khan Hoti, Minister Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Secretary Information Azmat Haneef Orakzai besides Acting U S Consul General Ms Constance C Arvis at Peshawar who signed the letter of agreement on behalf of the US Government were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Ameer Hiader Khan Hoti said that the provincial government is well aware of the importance and out reach of radio broadcast and that is why the government has allocated funds in annual development programme for establishment of as many as 24 FM Radio Stations throughout the province.
The Chief Minister said that these Radio Stations would be run with the involvement of the local communities so as to bring their problems to limelight. He said that we are fully aware of genuine needs of the people at gross root level and are committed for solution to their problems, added, our priorities reflects aspiration of the people. The Provincial Government, he said has also planned the establishment of its own television station and at the moment, feasibility study for the same is under way, he added.
Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said that the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has evolved a well thought communication strategy to reach to the people and the establishment of FM Radio Stations and television channel is a part of the same strategy. He said that radio is an effective medium in mass communication channels through which large portion of population can easily be accessed. Reciprocating her feeling Ms Constance C Arvis, the Acting US Consul General Peshawar assured the Chief Minister of his government full support to develop local media aimed at public good at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA. Later on Ms Constance C Arvis, the Acting US Consul General and Director Information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shoaib ud Din Khan signed the LOA in the presence of the chief minister, provincial minister for information and secretary information.
