ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari was discharged from a Dubai hospital on Wednesday night, the official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
Quoting the presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar, the agency said that Zardari had moved to his Dubai residence from the American hospital.
"President Asif Ali Zardari has been discharged from hospital and moved to his residence in Dubai," the agency quoted Babar as saying.
Earlier, Babar had said that the president would be discharged from the hospital on Thursday after spending more than a week there but would remain in the Gulf emirate to rest.
Zardari's move came as Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told the Senate that the president was forced to seek treatment in Dubai because of threats to his life if he attended a Pakistani hospital.
Babar told AFP after Gilani's speech that Zardari was committed to leading his country.
"The President will come back to Pakistan after permission by the doctors and will not resign," Farhatullah Babar told AFP after Gilani's speech.
"The president has to follow doctors' advice, he will travel after doctors will permit him," he said.
Khaldoun Taha, Zardari's doctor, issued a statement saying the president was admitted on December 6 with "left arm numbness and twitching" after losing consciousness for a few seconds.
Zardari has a long-standing heart condition, but was admitted "fully awake and conscious with stable vital signs", Taha added.
Cardiac and neurological tests were conducted, including a brain scan, but "all investigations were within normal range", the doctor said.
