Sindh Governor discusses investment opportunities for GB in Pakistan

KARACHI: British Minister for Asia and Pacific, Mark Field and Minister for Trade, Greg Hands had a meeting with Sindh Governor, Muhammad Zubair and discussed matters related to business relations between their country and Pakistan.

According to Sindh Governor House spokesman, the Governor presently on an official visit to Great Britain discussed in detail, with the two ministers, matters related to bilateral relations in particular context of investment and business.

It was acknowledged that there existed enough room to increase Pakistani exports to GB and that current nine percent of its imports  comprising Pakistani goods was quite negligible.

"We need to strengthen our trade relations alongwith traditional cordiality," Governor Muhammad Zubair was quoted to have said.

Pakistan's Ambassador to GB, Syed Ibn e Abbas and business representative of GB for trade relations with Pakistan Rehman Chisti were cited to be also present on the occasion.

Discussing the Road Shows organized in GB to showcase business as well as investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh province, the Governor urged the British ministers to exercise their influence in promoting mutual interest of the countries.

Pakistan, he said is on the forefront in the ongoing war against terrorism and has paid a heavy price for the cause.

"Our friends in west need to realize our position and play their role to ensure that achievements made by Pakistan may not go in vain," he was quoted to have emphasized.

Sindh Governor said investment in Pakistan will help strengthen ongoing development work in the country supplemented by national progress with the world and its inhabitants also among the ultimate beneficiaries.

"It is development and progress that can end terrorism for good," said Sindh Governor.

Claiming that economic policy of Pakistan government is paying off with steady increase in investment opportunities, he said more and more multi national companies (MNCs) are opening their outlets in the country's commercial hub, Karachi as well as in other major cities.

"Inception of CPEC is also turning Karachi into a central business hub of the region facilitating trade between Central Asian countries and those in the Europe," he said.

Governor apprised the British Ministers and concerned official of the improved law and order situation coupled with provision for updated infrastructure development in the province of Sindh, home to country's financial capital.

British authorities appreciative of the measures adopted by the government in Pakistan assured to cooperate with their long time friend.
