Saeed Ajmal reveals about his strict fielding drills

Saeed Ajmal was one of the leading exponents of spin bowling in world cricket during his prime. However, there was a time when Ajmal’s poor fielding got in between the way of his dreams.
“When I started off, my fielding was very weak, I was told by my coach that he liked my bowling but he cannot select me due to my poor fielding. I then asked him to give me three months time to improve my fielding, otherwise he could drop me,” said Ajmal, quoted local media.
Ijaz Ahmed, who was the fielding coach back then, trained Ajmal as he was supposed to take 100 catches each day for the three month duration.
“The hard work paid off, as I became confident in my ability, as well as my captain was sure that I am not going to drop any catches,” he added.

Ajmal made his international debut for Pakistan in 2008 against arch rivals India and went on to pick 447 wickets in all formats of the game. The Faisalabad born is known for his bowling display against the England series in UAE back in 2012 where he took 24-wickets, giving Pakistan a famous win over the then number one side.
Last month, Ajmal bid adieu to the game after playing his last match for Faisalabad against Lahore Whites at the semis of National T20 Cup.
