Medical experts have said loadshedding and unrest in the metropolis are having negative impact on children's minds as an increase of up to 15 percent in fear, depression and unwillingness to study has been noticed amongst them. Pediatric Neurologist in NICH Dr Atif Saeed Anjum has said again and again telecasting of sensitive breaking news such as of bomb blasts are also affecting children's minds.
He also said prolonged power outages and that too in summer is also frustrating children and they are losing interest in studying with several other tensions on their minds. Furthermore he urged parents to immediately seek medical attention for all those children who are more than often cranky or complain of depression.
Child Specialist in Sindh Government Children Hospital North Nazimabad, Dr Abid Hussain, said playing video games, long hours of internet surfing and TV viewing are also the causes which lead to several problems related to mental state. He stressed on parents to set a timetable for their children's study and leisure hours. On the issue, Head of Psychology at Jinnah Hospital Professor Iqbal Afridi said millions of people all over the world complain of depression and other related problems. He informed that 90 percent such problems are curable if attended properly.
